Barbados, a beautiful nation island in the Eastern Caribbean is
endowed with some 70 square kilometers of the most romantic
beaches in the world. The island is made mostly of coral
limestone that gives the sand its whitish brown color. The
weather is mainly sunny and pleasant, facilitating the many beach
activities available across the island. A vacation in Barbados
spent near any of the island's beaches can provide a treasury of
new and fun experiences for the whole family.
Silver Sands Beach
Silver Sands Beach is located on the southern tip of the island.
It has sugary white sand. There are many hotels, guesthouses and
apartment nearby. Restaurants and places of entertainment
proliferate in the nearby vicinity. The beach itself is gorgeous.
The water is clear and just right for swimming. A variety of
water sports including windsurfing, wave running and parasailing
are available.
Sandy Beach
Sandy beach, also located in the south of the island, has a
shallow lagoon in which children can swim safely. The reef off
this beach is excellent for snorkeling. Beach chairs and
umbrellas can be rented for a small fee. Food and beverages are
always on sale here. Jet ski rentals and windsurfing are
sometimes available, depending on the time of the year. This
beach may be crowded on weekends but it is much quieter during
the week.
Accra Beach
Accra is a favorite beach for both tourist and locals alike. It
has beautiful, fine, sugary sand. Enjoy swimming, sunbathing, jet
skiing or just sit in a chair under an umbrella and read your
favorite book while the children build sand castles. Businesses
on and around this beach offer a wide variety of services. You
can pay one of the local girls to braid your hair right on the
beach. Buy local craft, local food, fast food, drinks, coconuts
and local jewellery.
Folkestone Beach
Folkestone is situated on the west coast of the island. Enjoy
snorkeling as you explore the marine life around a sunken vessel
off Folkestone. Visit the mariner museum and have a breathtaking
look at the kind of marine life found around the shores of
Barbados. Folkestone is also great for picnicking, swimming,
glass bottom boat rides, water skiing and jet skiing
Cattlewash Beach
Situated on the eastern side of the island, Cattlewash is
located in naturally rugged terrain. The beach stretches for
several miles. Cattlewash is ideal for surfing. Swimming is not
recommended. Cattlewash offers an inviting and challenging
environment for persons who love nature.
Bath beach
Bath beach is away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist
belt. Situated on the eastern side of the island, it is ideal for
picnics, fishing and swimming. Persons who love nature can take a
guided tour along the coast from Bath to Bathsheba.
Mullins Beach
This beach is very popular with tourists. It is situated along
the island's west coast where the water is calm and inviting. Jet
skiing, water skiing, snorkeling, swimming and sunbathing can be
enjoyed here. If you prefer to enjoy a quiet day here, you can
rent a lounge chair and an umbrella or sit under one of the many
trees and relax with a rum punch from the beach bar.
Bathsheba
Bathsheba is the surfer's paradise on the east coast. During the
months of March and April a surfing tournament is held there.
Bathsheba is special for picnicking and hiking.
Brandons Beach
Brandon's beach is located on the outskirts of the capital
Bridgetown. It is a few minutes walk from the port where cruise
liners dock. Brandon's beach is good place for visitors from
cruise liners to spend the day. The Malibu Visitor's Center and
Beach Club is located at Brandons. Malibu offers guided tours of
the rum distillery and a Bajan buffet luncheon. Brandons is the
home for many water sport facilities and beach activities.
Included are wave running, banana boat rides, water-skiing,
windsurfing, Hobie cat rides and kayaking. Beach games like
soccer, volleyball and paddle tennis form part of the activities
at this beach. It is an excellent place to swim and sun
bathe.
Batt's Rock
This is another delightful beach and picnic location on the west
coast of the island. Like Brandons, it is quite near to
Bridgetown. The sea here is calm and peaceful. It is excellent
for swimming and for snorkeling. Batt's Rock has picnic benches,
showers and changing facilities. There is a children's playground
equipped with slides, swings and seesaws.
The beaches of Barbados provide a wide variety of fun activities
for all ages. One can choose to ride the wild waves at Bathsheba
or sit in the shade and enjoy the surf at Mullins. Whatever you
choose, be it swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, jet skiing, soccer,
volleyball or any of the other many beach activities available in
Barbados; you are sure to find relaxation and enjoyment beyond
anything you have experienced before.
